Look what you made me do, Taylor Swift! You made me write a blog post about your new song. How did you pull that off?
Frankly, I don’t really know who or what the song is about; I only hope she doesn’t mean it when she says that famous phrase, “look what you made me do.” A phrase I know all too well from growing up.
Looking back at those six words, words I heard and used frequently, what an absolute cop-out! Never has there been such a phrase that passes blame on to someone else – for something you did!
Here’s the deal, unless we are incapacitated, we live a life of complete free will! We choose what we want to do every little moment of every single day. No one, I mean no one, can make you do anything you don’t want to do. At one time, I didn’t know this but let me tell you, I know it and live it now.
If you are using these words or know someone who does, you need to look deeply at your life situation. I repeat, if someone says to you, “look what you made me do,” you need to let them know you are in no way that powerful. You cannot make someone do something that they didn’t want to do.
No one, I mean no one, can make you do anything you don’t want to do!
Granted you may be pushed or bumped, and your Starbucks Frappuccino may fall to the ground, this would be the exception to this rule.
Never give away your power. You need to be the only one ever driving your bus. If and when you allow someone else to take over your personal driver’s seat, you give up your free will.
As far as the Taylor Swift song, (Here is a link to her new song) her music is always intending to send a message to someone in a cryptic way. Perhaps the person it is intended for will know who they are. In the mean time, enjoy her talented writing, but DON’T use that phrase in your life! It creates a blame game, and we all need to own our own decisions!
